This past Saturday was the Kids Comic Con in the Bronx, NY. It was the third KCC and Alex Simmons and company did a wonderful job. It was my FIRST Comic Con where I exhibited.
It was great to have my gal Meg with me. Not only for her support but for the fans as well. Those who bought the Happyloo book were able to have it signed by the creator AND the Educational Consultant… BONUS! I was REALLY happy with the way the set up turned out. It looked even better than how I envisioned it in my head. The banners looked great and I was able to fill up the table with merch.
I had the Happyloo books, O>Matics Comics, Happyloo Shirts, O>Matics Shirts, O>Matics CDs, and FREE bookmarks and candy! The candy was a BIG hit. I sold quite a bit of stuff and even sold some MARK ART CARDS. I did some original color pieces on 4×6 cards and sold them for $2. I then challenged myself and told the public I would draw whatever they wanted. I think I did a pretty good job. I drew Ben 10, Harry Potter, Two-Face, Link (from Zelda), and several odd original pieces. I had to decline one gentlemen’s request for the Batman villian “Mad Hatter.” I couldn’t draw him off the top of my head. I should have taken pictures of theses Art Cards, but I didn’t. Next time I will. My plan is to have Request Art Cards for sale when I redo the store in the VERY NEAR FUTURE.

I had the pleasure of being set up in the same area as two swell professionals. Dave McDonald was to the right of me. He is the creator of a fabulous book entitled “Hamster Sam.” Hamster Sam goes on a historical and hysterical adventure in this beautifully colored book. Check out hamstersam.com to learn more about Dave. He does some really great workshops about comics.
Across from me was Marc Tauss. Marc is a master photo-illustrator, his book “Superhero” is something you have to see to believe. All his work you have to see to believe, so go see it… marctauss.com
It was great meeting fans and making contacts. I was able to submit “Happyloo: Friends, Foes and Fun!” to several Press people to be reviewed. I will keep you informed about those reviews.
I was also interviewed for the secret identity podcast. I gotta say I was a little nervous about doing an interview but once Matman started the interview I felt like I was chatting with a friend. They got a pretty sweet show about comics, visit them at secretidentitypodcast.com. I’ll let you guys know when my interview will be airing!
So overall the KCC was AWESOME I’m already look forward to next year where I plan on having FLABBERGAST done and ready for sale!
Also at the KCC I found out about another Comic Con that’s right around the corner in terms of time and location. The Hawthorne High School Comic Convention is May 9th and you’ll learn more about it soon.
