Miami Book Fair 09: Class Act
My wife stands in front of a class of students everyday and teaches. I did it for only a few hours and I don’t know how she does it, but I can see why she does it. Being a teacher is a tough job, but it comes with some BIG rewards. It was the highlight of my time in Miami. I was able to share my talents with kids and adults. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the completed art was a great feeling.
The classes had about fourteen to twenty students in them and they learned how to create simple characters. I showed them that cartoon and comic book characters are all based on shapes. We spent most of our time drawing shapes and adding on to them until we had some characters you may know…

Other characters we drew but not shown here are Wall-E, Snoopy, Spongebob and Happyloo’s Devon! At first I was intimidated about teaching but now I can’t wait for the next class.
It was fun sharing my art knowledge, answering questions, and gaining new readers and fans!
