Happyloo has come a long way since I first doodled Tickle and Devon on a napkin. The first book was a collection of wordless comics and the second book was slated to be the same, but things changed. After completing nearly half of the second book I felt something wasn't clicking. The book looked amazing but I felt the layouts may be too complicated for my intended audience of kids ages 4-8.

I printed out the first wordless comic story entitled "Flying Colors" and shared it with my friends, family, and comic industry friends as well. The overall consensus was that Happyloo needed to change to fit the audience. The layout needed to be streamlined and the book needed words.

At this time I was researching my audience, not just other kids comics, but picture books as well. I fell in love with picture books. I haven't read them since I was a kid. They really are amazing works of art. The idea of 40 pages of beautiful art mixed with a simple but sometimes deep story truly inspired me. I knew what I would do with Happyloo. It would be a picture book/comic hybrid. I planned to make the 16 page wordless comic story of "Flying Colors" into a 40 page book. With help from my wife Megan and my editor Laryssa, I rewrote the script (about five times.) After months of editing and reworking the art, I now have a book that I couldn't be more proud of.

Now it's time to play the waiting game of submitting the book to publishers and agents. If I get no bites, it'll be self-published and you'll be seeing Happyloo: Flying Colors in beautiful hardcover form around June. Here's the cover:
